Effective Colour Analysis: Why a Photo Alone Isn’t Enough
colour analysis with photo
Can you do colour analysis with just a photo? Yes, you can, but my advice would be that a trained colour consultant should analyse your photo. AI and definitely not an app!
The reasons for this can be found over on my what happens during a colour analysis page. But in one sentence, colour analysis is part science, part art. The AI and apps will lack the human artistic eye to truly find the colours most complementary to you. It would not be a unique and bespoke service. It would be based on large data that has been gathered, processed and spat out by an algorithm.
Swatch Wallets
Do I actually need a fancy swatch wallet? Yes! I would also advise you to invest in a proper colour swatch wallet!
Swatch wallets are provided in the dominant and full colour services except some of the colour parties (it depends on what you book for your party). These swatches provide you with a much more accurate colour match than any digital palette that is sent to you. Depending on the type of technology you are viewing it from (smart phone, desktop, tablet) the colour will read differently. Even a difference in phone model will make a difference to how the colour is coming across on your screen.
Remember – your aim is to invest in yourself and to start shopping with sustainability at the forefront of your mind. It makes more sense to purchase a swatch wallet that you can physically take with you when you are shopping. Or refer to from the comfort of your own home when you are online shopping.
In summary, I would always advise an in-person colour analysis. You will not only receive an accurate analysis and a physical swatch wallet to take away, you will also have agency to ask as many questions as you like!

Don’t take my word for it! Here’s what all my clients who saw me in person had to say!:
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I had a really lovely time with Jill getting a full colour analysis. Completely changed my view on colours that suit me and has given me a completely different view on clothes!! Can’t wait to get a walk around the shops with my colour palette. Super friendly and knowledgeable. Would highly recommend!!!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I had the most lovely time meeting Jill and I learned loads. It was really interesting getting my colours done and she made us so welcome. Thanks Jill!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Really enjoyed my full colour analysis. Thank you for today Jill
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Jill talked though everything in a really friendly and engaging way and responded patiently to all my questions. I really appreciated both the information about how the system works as well as seeing it in action. Once you know what you are looking for, it’s amazing the difference that warm or cool, clear or muted and light or dark shades can make. If you’re hesitating booking a session, go for it! – David S
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This was the first time I had my colours done.I waited until I was well over a certain age and beyond before taking the plunge. Well, I should have had it done much sooner. Forget the image of yesteryear and certain “types”who have their colours done. It is absolutely for everyone. Jill travelled to me, a considerable distance, with emails flying back and forth. She was friendly and personable, and gave me great tips.
Repurposing and remixing was high on the agenda, and there is no need for a huge range of makeup if you don’t use it. In other words, the advice is very person specific, so it’s up to you.
A few pieces went, just a few, and I shall be concentrating on a Core Wardrobe now, feeling confident in my new colour wallet. A lot of my existing clothes were close enough to fit, so I shan’t be wandering around with the wallet and a magnifying glass to “get the colour.” There is enough tolerance in the shades range to find a close match.
I shall definitely explore repurposed clothes sites, and if I buy new, examine the finish inside the garment. Jill advised that is a good indicator of quality.
I should have done this sooner, I was lucky to find an excellent Consultant. I might even book for a wardrobe cull! I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her, for a one to one or a group booking or Girl’s Night In. Thank you so much Jill, I have a new outlook now.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ You might be like me, I was bored with the colours that I kept buying, and I wanted to be inspired. I chose Jill because in one of her pictures she is wearing a baseball varsity type jacket, and I thought she would be quite easy-going and casual in her dress, quite approachable. I worried that the perfectly coiffed and ironed people that I had seen offering a similar service elsewhere would be judgemental of my casual mode of dress. I was so glad I did chose her, I spent a wonderful rainy afternoon with Jill, she is insightful, funny and incredibly kind. As many people may have done before deciding on a proper expert analysis, I had looked online and done quizzes, and in every one of them, I found that I did not quite fit, other than being a cool toned person, the seasonal typings did not work. It turns out that I am a soft, cool and deep, my colour palette is lovely, but only one grey, which I had quite a lot of because my eyes are grey-ish green. My wardrobe has been purged of most of the grey, and I am enjoying looking for other colours. This has been a very positive experience for me and has inspired me to be a bit more adventurous in my clothing choices. I would very much recommend an afternoon with Jill, if you are on the fence about colour analysis, if nothing else, you might find a new favourite colour that rounds out your wardrobe, making you smile and your eyes sparkle – Chrissy L
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I’ve had a colour consultation with Jill today and it’s was amazing. Her knowledge combined with the level of professionalism made the whole experience informative, enjoyable and ultimately successful. If you are in any doubt about the benefits of a colour analysis then doubt no more and let Jill take you on this amazing journey to discover the beauty of you- Julie M
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I have wanted to do this for years and it did not disappoint. Even though as an ‘artist’ I know about colour (and what I like and don’t like) I learnt a lot about how to adapt my outfits to really complement my colouring and draw attention to my eyes. As soon as I got home I headed straight for a play in my wardrobe. Can thoroughly recommend – Toni S
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Thank you for an amazing couple of hours! You have introduced me to the fascinating world of colour and how to make it work for me. I have experienced some colours that I’ve not considered before, and today has acted as a catalyst to me actually thinking about colour. So tomorrow I’m going looking in my wardrobes and undergoing a review!
This will be a journey for me, but you have given the tools and confidence to commence! I look forward to receiving the make up – pink blusher banished! Many thanks for your expertise and putting me at ease to have a most enjoyable and worthwhile experience – April F
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Just returned home from a full colour analysis with Jill at YouHue. I’m amazed at the thoughts and perspective she has given me on my palette and dominant colours. I wasn’t expecting to have my make up done, so this was a nice surprise when I got the email before my appointment. It was so interesting to see what new colours and techniques Jill suggested I could try. Jill is so knowledgeable and I’ve come away feeling so much more confident in knowing which colours suit me. Some were unexpected and even colours I usually avoid thinking they wouldn’t suit me, and others are colours I already know and love! ‘m excited to look at my wardrobe again with my new knowledge and will definitely use this experience to shape how I put together outfits in future! I found the whole session fascinating and would recommend to anyone who is interested to know a bit more about their colour palette. Thank you!
